Family Devo: Catching Fish!

Family Devo for week of Jan. 26: Catching Fish

Gather Together:
Light a candle and take a deep breath.

Share Together:
Each family member share a list of friends and say a sentence about what you like so much about your friend. You can draw pictures or write down their names too.

Read Together (from Luke 5:1-11)
One day Jesus was standing beside the Sea of Galilee when the crowd gathered around him to hear God’s word. Jesus saw two boats sitting by the lake. The fishermen had gone ashore and were washing their nets. When Jesus finished speaking to the crowds, he said to one of the fishermen, Simon, “Row out into the deep water, and drop your nets for a catch.” Simon replied, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and caught nothing. But because you say so, I’ll drop the nets.”

So they dropped the nets and their catch was so huge that their nets were splitting. Peter and those with him were amazed by the number of fish they caught. 10 James and John were Simon’s partners and they were amazed too. Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid. From now on, you will be fishing for people.” As soon as they brought the boats to the shore, they left everything and followed Jesus.

Discuss Together:
Jesus asked his close friends to come with him wherever he went because he loved to be with them. He also told them that they would fish for people instead of fish. He meant that they would invite all their friends and everyone they know to come and meet Jesus too. They did this because they wanted their friends to know how much they were loved.

Think about those friends you shared. How can you invite them to know how much they are loved? Could you invite them to church/Sunday School?
