Freeze! Advent Family Devo for December 10

Gather around the Advent wreath and light two purple candles. Remind each other that this is the Hope candle and the Peace candle.

Read together: Matthew 3:1-4: In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, 2“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 3This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”
Do Together: Everyone stand together and look at one side of the room. Describe the room or name everything you see. Then turn around and describe everything you see looking in the other direction. Sometimes when we get stuck with a problem, or we argue or disagree with each other it is because we are only seeing things one way. Turning around helps us to see things differently. When John the Baptist called people to repent, he meant for them to turn around and see things differently.
Think About: What are some of the things you see happen that make the world less peaceful? How could turning around and doing things differently help bring about peace?
Pray Together:  Dear God, help us to turn around when we need to do things differently. Help us to always be looking for peace in our lives and in the lives of everyone.
