Family Devotion 2: Hannah and her Prayers

On Sunday, September 15 we explored the story of Hannah from 1 Samuel 1:1-2:11, 18-21.
Hannah wanted a child.  She was a devoted woman who took everything to God in prayer. She prayed in the temple when she was happy, when she worried.  We hear in this part of the story, that she prayed when she was very sad because she wanted to have a child.  When she did have a child she went to the temple to thank God.  When she wanted to share her great blessing of her son, Samuel, she did it at the temple.

Together:  Think about the times when we were:  happy, sad, hopeful, worried, thankful, when we needed something, when we were celebrating, proud, excited, embarrassed, unhappy, confused.

Then, pray together each day, naming those feelings we have, telling God why we feel that way, and ask God to be with us in all of our emotions. Keep a mini-journal (simple paper folded in half) with with pictures of faces for each prayer.  Reflect each day on how we felt God with us as we experienced different emotions throughout our day. How did we hear God's voice this week?  What did God call us to do?

Remember our memory verse for this month:  Speak, your servant is listening.
